I absolutely believe Affluenza is a thing, his parents didn’t do him any favors by spoiling him. And I might have agreed that he should be given at least a chance at living a productive life and contributing to society as an adult when at such a young age he has taken so much. But when he fled to Mexico with his mom, that should have been the end. 10 years of hard time without parole, minimum.

Affluenza is a thing because society gives rich white kids a chance at redeeming themselves after they make big boy mistakes.
The cure is to treat these kids like every other piece of shit that kills a productive member of society. We’ve got plenty of people in this country, one less asshole won’t hurt us.

I agree in treating them like any other kid who accidentally albeit negligently kills one or more people in a single incident. It should be a severe but not life-ending punishment if there was no malice in the act.

Nothing accidental about getting piss drunk and driving a car. It’s a very intentional act. Plenty of malice for every other person on road in that act, further proven by his attempt to avoid responsibility for his action. Doubt the kid or his family has done anything to help support his victim’s kin over the years.
We have plenty of productive member in our society. Let the scum rot away.

I’m ashamed that these people live in the same area as I do. This kid didn’t go to my school, but I teach at a school full of spoiled kids. The average house price in the district is over $400k and all the kids drive nicer and newer cars than the teachers. It’s unbelievable how enabling the parents are.

Getting piss drunk and driving a car does not automatically mean you intend to kill people, despite that being a probable
consequence of driving while drunk. Selfish, stupid, negligent, yes. Malicious, not typically. Not that that matters to the victims, but it makes a difference in our justice system, as that’s the difference between manslaughter and murder.

To buy a $400k house you should be making over $100k a year (it’s recommended that you spend under 30% of your income on you’re mortgage).
